Apple Pie - From Scratch

Makes a great Thanksgiving addin, or for any reason that you can think of having apple pie.  I add a bit of powdered sugar to the top, but that isn't really necessary if you don't feel like it.

Ingredients:

2 pie crusts (one on bottom one hatch cross, so more like 1.5 crusts)
1/2 butter
3 tbs flour
1/4 c water
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
8 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).  Melt the butter in a saucepan.  Stir in flour to form a paste.  Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, and bring to a boil.  Reduce temperature and let simmer.  Stir occasionally to avoid any burning or excessive stickiness to pan.

2. Place the bottom crust in your pie pan.  Fill with apples, mounded slightly.  Cover with lattice/hatch pattern crust.  Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust.  Pour slowly so that it does not run off.  Use a spatula to attempt even covering, as the sauce will drip down as it cooks into the apples.

3. Bake 15 minutes at the preheated temperature.  Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F (175 C) for 35-45 minutes, until the apples are soft.
